These are some interesting facts about igneous rocks.

Igneous rocks are liquid minerals, which have been crystallized.  The crystals from the liquid rock connect like a jigsaw puzzle, which crystallizes into igneous rock.  

Lava cooled instantly form natural glass.  Glass is disordered atoms frozen so no crystals form.  Glass is part of many igneous rocks (e.g., lava flows),and pyroclastic igneous rocks.  

Some  igneous rocks form during volcanic eruption.  Eruptions eject molten igneous rocks, partially molten, and non-molten rock.  The material solidifies into hard mass called pyroclastic igneous rock.

Rocks with a fast cooling history are called fine-textured igneous rocks.  Slow cooling (which usually occurs deep underground) promotes large crystals.  Rocks with slow cooling history are called coarse-textured igneous rocks.

The texture of the rock (defined as the size of crystals in the rock) is related to the cooling rate.Rapid cooling menes the formation of small crystals, which are too small for the naked eye to see.  Slow cooling (which usually occurs deep underground) promotes large crystals.

The armor of god

The Armor of God 

Ephesians 6:10-17

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,

15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.     17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

The Search for the Holy Grail

“Are you sure the map is completely right?” asked Sir Fraich’s squire, whose name was Balbh.  They had been searching high and low, right and left, for the Holy Grail.  

“The map is right, but the Holy Grail is not in England,” declared Sir Fraich.  

“Then where is it?” inquired Balbh.  

“Apparently, Israel.  We need to head back to king Arthur's castle,” announced Sir Fraich.  

“Oh, when do we start?” Balbh questioned.

“Tomorrow,” stated Sir Fraich.

In the morning they started the journey to king Arthur's castle, which would be a five day’s ride.  When they got there, they immediately travel to king Arthur's throne room.  

“We know where the Holy Grail is, Your Majesty,” declared Sir Fraich.

“Where is it?” King Arthur questioned.  

“The Holy Grail is in Israel, Your Majesty,” declared Sir Fraich.  

“Great, I will set up a casual cruise on the Cwech, which will be setting out tomorrow,” King Arthur declared.

The next day they set out on the journey to Israel.   There were many countries in between England and Israel.  First, they trekked to France, then beautiful Italy, then Greece, then Turkey, then Siberia, and finally, Israel.

They found the Holy Grail there.  They returned to England and lived happily ever after.

The People Who Came Before Us

      Some people have these questions about Native Americans. Where did they live? Where are they now? What did they eat? How did they live? These are some answers.

      These are some interesting Shoshone facts. The Shoshones gathered chokecherries and dug up bitterroot. Pine nuts, which are from the pinon tree, were important to the Shoshones. Hunters covered themselves with animal skins to stealthily sneak up on prey. They lived somewhere in Eastern Oregon. They now live on the Wind River Reservation, in Idaho.
      These are some facts about the Kalapuyans. The Kalapuyans consumed, roots, stems, flowers, fruits, seeds and nuts, which were not usually poisonous. They cleverly set tarweed plants on fire to get the seeds. They ate roasted grasshoppers like popcorn during the freezing winter. In the beginning, they lived in Western Oregon. They currently live on the Grand Ronde Reservation, in Oregon.

      These are some intriguing facts about the Chinook Indians. Interestingly, the Chinook Indians hung fish on their ceilings to dry. To swiftly catch the fish, they used a long pole, which had a net on the end to remove the fish out of the water. Apparently, they were the first people to make canoes. They lived in what is now Clackamas County. Today, they have no reservation.
      These three Oregon Indian tribes are fascinating to me. They are the same in some ways and different in others. We can learn from the people who came before us.
